Mechatronics program rankings

Every mechatronics program in the US, ranked

We rank every verified mechatronics, robotics, and electromechanical engineering program on a transparent 7-factor methodology. Pick a degree level for the broad answer, a modifier (cost, format, accreditation, employer partnership, apprenticeship) when you know what you're optimizing for, or a state for region-specific employer pipelines. 17 national + modifier ranking lists, 61 hand-crafted state pages covering 35 states, 244 verified programs total.

Most-used rankings

Spotlight rankings

If you don't know where to start, start here. Four rankings cover the broadest student questions: best engineer-track BS, best BS overall, best AAS, best certificate.

3-12 months · Technician entry

Mechatronics certificate program rankings

Shortest credential path. Many certificates stack into a full AAS for students who continue. Most are Pell-eligible and effectively free for low-income students.

2 years · Technician entry

AAS in Mechatronics rankings

The flagship credential for mechatronics technician careers. Two years, $5K-$15K total tuition (often Pell-covered), $50K-$75K starting wages at top employer pipelines.

4 years · Engineer entry

Bachelor's in Mechatronics rankings

ABET-EAC for engineer-track licensure path. ABET-ETAC for technologist-track. Plus a handful of unaccredited or pending programs at private universities and new public-tier launches.

1.5-2 years · Engineer specialization

Master's in Mechatronics rankings

Graduate-tier mechatronics for working engineers. Hybrid and online delivery dominate; tuition reimbursement covers most or all program cost at major employers.

Filter by cost

Most affordable mechatronics programs

Ranked by lowest total program cost. Public CC tuition dominates. State-funded scholarships (Kansas Promise, TN Reconnect, AR Future, CA Promise Grant) push effective cost to zero for many students.

Filter by delivery format

Online + hybrid mechatronics programs

For working students or those who can't relocate. UW-Stout's BS in Automation Leadership and OSU's online undergraduate certificate are standouts for online delivery. Hybrid options dominate at the AAS level.

Filter by ABET accreditation

ABET-EAC vs ABET-ETAC mechatronics programs

EAC (Engineering Accreditation Commission) is the engineer-track tier required for FE-to-PE licensure. ETAC (Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission) is the technologist tier valid for industry technologist careers. Different paths, both legitimate.

Earn while you learn

Mechatronics programs with apprenticeships

Employer-sponsored apprenticeships pay you to train. Standout programs: TSMC at EMCC (Phoenix semiconductor), Toyota at ICC (Mississippi auto), Lockheed at SAU Tech (Arkansas defense), Wisconsin DWD apprenticeships at WCTC + Madison + Moraine Park + Gateway, Vincennes Amazon (Indiana).

Filter by vendor partnership

Mechatronics programs with named vendor partnerships

Programs aligned to specific industrial automation platforms. Siemens SMSCP (Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program) and FANUC certification carry meaningful weight in employer hiring decisions for plant-floor automation roles.

Distinctive state coverage

8 distinctive state ranking pages

State pages with the most distinctive employer stories. Each is a hand-crafted ranking with deep editorial context on local manufacturing employers, wage data, apprenticeships, and funding.

How we rank

Transparent 7-factor methodology

Every ranking on this site uses the same methodology. Same formula, same inputs, deterministic outputs. National rankings, state rankings, and city rankings all compute scores the same way.

The factors weight what actually matters for student outcomes: accreditation tier (FE-to-PE licensure pathway, ETAC vs EAC), faculty leadership and program experience, ladder-up pathways into BS or MS, delivery format (online, hybrid, on-campus), named industry employer pipelines, total cost and affordability, and program reputation.
