Mechatronics technician salary in Florida (2026)

The median mechatronics technician salary in Florida is $75,450 a year, or about $36.28 an hour, according to BLS wage data from May 2025. That is roughly 2% above the national median of $73,900, which is a nice surprise for a state people usually file under 'low pay, sunny weather.'

The catch is how few of these jobs Florida has. BLS counts only about 500 electro-mechanical and mechatronics technicians statewide, and the location quotient sits at 0.5, meaning the job is about half as common here as it is nationally. So the pay holds up, but you are competing for a small pool of roles concentrated around a handful of employers.

How much does a mechatronics technician make in Florida?

The spread here is what matters. The bottom 10% of Florida mechatronics technicians earn around $53,360, while the top 10% pull in $96,800 or more. That is a $43,000 gap between the low and high end, and it maps almost perfectly to experience and industry. Fresh out of an associate program you land near the bottom; a decade in on high-speed lines or aerospace systems puts you near the top.

The middle 50% sit between $61,160 and $80,640, so a realistic target for a technician a few years into the trade is the high $60,000s to mid $70,000s. What is notable for a state this size is the small employment count. Only about 500 jobs and a 0.5 location quotient tell you Florida isn't a mechatronics hub the way it is for tourism or logistics. Demand is real but concentrated, which means the top decile is largely defense, aerospace, and semiconductor work rather than general factory maintenance.

Florida mechatronics salary: BLS vs Salary.com vs Indeed

The three big salary sources disagree hard for Florida, and it is worth knowing why before you walk into a negotiation. BLS says $75,450 because it surveys actual employers for one specific occupation code (electro-mechanical and mechatronics technicians). Salary.com models a single job title from HR data and lands at $55,552. Indeed averages real job postings and comes in at $27.49 an hour, or about $57,179 a year, off a sample of 92 reported salaries.

The gap comes down to what each tool counts. Indeed and Salary.com sweep in a lot of entry-level and loosely-titled 'mechatronics' postings, including junior automation and technician-trainee roles that drag the average down. BLS isolates the established occupation. For negotiating, anchor to the BLS number: $75,450 median, with a defensible band of $61,160 to $80,640 for a technician with a couple of years of hands-on PLC and troubleshooting experience.

How Florida compares with nearby states

Inside the South, Florida is at the top of the pay table. Its $75,450 median edges out Louisiana ($75,410) and Maryland ($75,330), and beats regional heavyweight Texas by a wide margin (Texas pays a $54,460 median even though it has about 1,800 of these jobs to Florida's 500). So if you want the most jobs you look at Texas or North Carolina (800 jobs, $63,330 median), but if you want the best pay in the region, Florida is already about as good as the South gets.

Who hires mechatronics technicians in Florida

The strongest demand sits on the Space Coast and in central Florida. SkyWater Technology runs a semiconductor foundry at NeoCity in Osceola County that hires plant maintenance and equipment technicians. GE Aerospace operates in Viera near Melbourne, and defense primes Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman keep a large footprint across the Melbourne and Palm Bay corridor. These aerospace, defense, and chip employers are where the top-decile pay tends to live.

Outside that cluster, Amazon hires Mechatronics and Robotics Technicians at its Florida fulfillment centers to keep material-handling equipment running, and high-speed manufacturers in beverage, packaging, and plastics regularly post for technicians strong in Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC work. Those roles are more evenly spread across Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Miami.

How to earn more as a mechatronics technician in Florida

Stack the controls certifications employers actually screen for

Nearly every higher-paying Florida posting names the same skills: PLC troubleshooting and programming on Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms. Certifications that prove those skills move you out of the $61,160 bottom half and toward the $80,640 upper quartile. See our mechatronics certifications guide for which ones are worth the time and money.

Chase the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor sector

Florida's top-decile pay ($96,800 and up) is concentrated in Space Coast defense and aerospace and in the SkyWater semiconductor fab, not in general factory maintenance. A technician who builds relevant experience and can pass the security requirements these employers ask for is targeting a different pay band than someone maintaining a bottling line. This is the single biggest lever the state's data points to.

Step up to the engineer track

The technician ceiling in Florida is roughly $96,800. The controls and automation engineer track sits above that. If you already know PLCs and industrial systems, moving into a design or programming role is the clearest way past the technician cap.
